Why the Artisan Goodtime Six-R?

The Artisan Six-R is a 6-string banjo with a resonator back. The resonator back is designed for sound projection, sending the sound forward toward the audience. Deering made it for studio guitarists, theater musicians and any guitar player who wants banjo tone.

It is built to complement the guitar, not replace it. Tuned like a guitar, so your guitar chord shapes work as they are. If you play guitar, you can pick it up and play right away.

The Pot

3-ply violin grade maple rim, 11 inches across, with an 11 inch frosted high crown head. Beveled steel tension hoop with 16 flat J-hooks and 9/32 inch hex nuts. 2 piece flange. Goodtime armrest, 5/8 inch Goodtime Smile bridge and Deering’s patented Goodtime tailpiece. Nickel plated hardware and a hand rubbed polyurethane finish with carnauba wax.

In short: the Artisan Goodtime Six-R puts American-made banjo tone in a guitarist’s hands, with a resonator for projection and the Kavanjo pickup installed, at about 5.5 lbs.

The Neck

Rock maple neck with a comfortable D shape and a satin finish. Pau Ferro fingerboard with a 15 inch radius and pearloid inlays. 22 pressed in nickel silver frets. Dual action truss rod. Lexan polycarbonate nut at 1 11/16 inch width, the feel of a guitar neck. Six sealed geared tuners. 26 1/4 inch scale length.

The Resonator

3-ply poplar, poplar and maple resonator with a Dark Red Mahogany stain, a satin finish and straight sidewalls, 13 7/8 inches across. Overall length 38 inches, about 5.5 lbs.
