Why the Artisan Goodtime Americana?
The Americana is the Deering Goodtime built on a 12 inch rim. Deering says the 12 inch rim gives a stronger bass response and a warmer tone, and the Renaissance head adds to that fullness. Compared with a standard 11 inch banjo, it has a more laid back sound, so it suits backing up a singer or another instrument more than playing lead.
The Artisan version of the Goodtime Americana adds a dark red mahogany stain, Goodtime planetary tuners and a midnight maple fingerboard with vintage Artisan style inlays.
The Pot
3-ply violin grade maple rim, 12 inches across, with a 12 inch Renaissance medium crown head. Beveled steel tension hoop with 16 flat J-hooks and 9/32 inch hex nuts. Goodtime armrest, 5/8 inch Goodtime Smile bridge and Deering’s patented Goodtime tailpiece. Nickel plated hardware and a hand finished satin polyurethane finish.
In short: the Artisan Goodtime Americana is an American-made 12 inch openback banjo with a laid back sound for old time playing and backing a singer, at about 4.5 lbs.
