Gold Tone BG-150F 2026 Bluegrass Banjo: Presto Tailpiece, Maple Resonator, Rolled Brass Tone Ring, Flat Flange
This is the 2026 version of the Gold Tone BG-150F. Gold Tone updated the BG-150F for 2026 with a Presto tailpiece, a new fretboard inlay design and a new headstock inlay design. We list it separately from the earlier BG-150F because the two are built differently, and every photo on this page shows the 2026 version.

What Gold Tone changed for 2026
Gold Tone’s 2026 update changed the tailpiece to a Presto, gave the fretboard and the headstock new inlay designs, and lists a 14 inch maple resonator where its earlier spec listed mahogany. The rim is an 11 inch multi-ply maple rim with a custom bevel, the tension hoop is an 11 inch brass notched hoop, and the armrest is Gold Tone’s plain style where the earlier spec listed the engraved one.
A lighter bluegrass banjo
Gold Tone’s aim with the BG-150F is the look of the great pre-WWII banjos at a great price: a hearts and flowers style fretboard inlay and a 14 inch resonator. Instead of a heavy bell brass ring it uses an 11 inch rolled brass flat bar tone ring, a quarter inch brass rod, which brings the banjo in at about 8.5 pounds. Gold Tone says little is lost in sound quality or power, and that long gigs played standing up become much more bearable on the lighter banjo.

How is this different from the earlier BG-150F?
Gold Tone’s 2026 update changed the tailpiece (a Presto in place of the Terminator), the fretboard and headstock inlay designs, the resonator (maple, where the earlier spec listed mahogany), the rim (now with a custom bevel), the tension hoop (brass, notched) and the armrest (plain, where the earlier spec listed engraved). The tone ring, flange, neck, fingerboard, tuners, scale length and weight are the same in both specs.
Does the BG-150F have a full weight tone ring?
No. It uses an 11 inch rolled brass flat bar ring, a quarter inch brass rod, rather than a heavy bell brass ring. That is why it weighs about 8.5 pounds.
Does it come with a case?
It comes with a gig bag. Gold Tone’s HD16 hard case is available separately.
