Why the Banjolele-DLX?
This deluxe model is designed in the style of the banjo ukuleles made famous by George Formby, the legendary British music hall entertainer whose lightning-fast split-stroke technique captivated audiences in the 1930s and 40s. The Banjolele-DLX gives you the hardware and construction you need to execute those classic techniques with authentic tone and projection.
At just 5 pounds, the Banjolele-DLX is comfortable to hold for extended playing sessions. It’s tuned standard GCEA, so any ukulele player can pick it up and start playing immediately — you’ll just be amazed at how much more projection and presence you have compared to a wooden uke.
The Resonator
That gorgeous flamed maple resonator is the first thing you’ll notice. The deep-wall design with its vintage brown sunburst finish isn’t just beautiful — it pumps sound forward toward your audience with surprising volume for such a compact instrument. The one-piece cast flange adds rigidity and sustain while giving the instrument that classic look that serious banjo uke players expect.
The Tone Ring
The 8-inch rolled brass tone ring is the heart of this instrument’s voice. It delivers the bright, cutting tone that made the banjo ukulele a stage performer’s secret weapon. Combined with the Remo MC Smooth head, you get articulate attack on every note with just enough warmth to keep it musical.
In short: the Banjolele-DLX delivers professional-grade George Formby-style tone with Mastertone construction — rolled brass tone ring, one-piece cast flange, flamed maple resonator, ebony fingerboard, gig bag included.
The Neck
The neck is built to professional standards with an ebony fingerboard, 17 nickel-silver frets, and elegant snowflake inlays. The ZeroGlide nut ensures perfect intonation at the first fret — a small detail that makes a big difference in playability. The concert scale length of 15 1/2 inches feels familiar to any ukulele player, and the 1 3/8″ nut width gives your fingers room to work.
Open gear guitar-style tuners with chrome buttons provide smooth, precise tuning. The chrome-plated hardware throughout complements the vintage brown finish and cream binding beautifully.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a banjo ukulele?
A banjo ukulele (or banjolele) combines a ukulele neck with a banjo pot assembly. It’s tuned like a standard ukulele (GCEA) but produces the bright, projecting tone of a banjo. Banjo ukuleles became popular in the 1920s and 1930s through performers like George Formby.
Who was George Formby?
George Formby (1904-1961) was a legendary British music hall entertainer whose lightning-fast split-stroke banjo ukulele technique captivated audiences in the 1930s and 40s. His playing style defined the sound of the banjo ukulele, and the Banjolele-DLX is designed to replicate the instruments he made famous.
What’s the difference between soprano, concert, tenor, and baritone banjo ukuleles?
Gold Tone makes banjo ukuleles in four scale lengths — all using the same 8-inch maple-rimmed pot assembly — differing only in neck length. The Banjolele-DLX is a concert-scale model with a 15 1/2″ scale, offering a comfortable middle ground between the compact soprano and the larger tenor. Browse all Gold Tone banjo ukuleles →
Is there a more affordable banjo ukulele option?
Yes. The Gold Tone BUS is an open-back soprano-scale model that delivers classic George Formby-style tone at a lower price point. It’s a great entry into banjo ukuleles if you’re not ready for the deluxe features. We can order any Gold Tone model you’re interested in — just call or text us at 404-218-8580.
Can I play ukulele songs on a banjo ukulele?
Absolutely. The Banjolele-DLX is tuned standard GCEA — the same as a concert ukulele — so any ukulele player can pick it up and start playing immediately. The difference is volume and projection: banjo ukuleles cut through a band mix in ways that wooden ukes simply cannot.
