If you’re a left-handed player looking for the most complete, no-guesswork entry point into bluegrass banjo, this is it. The Gold Tone CC-BG/L is the left-handed version of Gold Tone’s beloved Cripple Creek Bluegrass Starter Pack, and it comes loaded with everything you need to start picking from day one. At the heart of the package is the CC-BG banjo — a genuinely capable instrument with a hard maple neck, rosewood fingerboard, 11-inch multi-ply maple rim, and a rolled brass flat bar tone ring that gives you that bright, punchy bluegrass voice from the very first note. Add a mahogany resonator, chrome hardware, and a Remo coated head, and you’ve got a banjo that punches well above its price point. Left-handed players are often an afterthought in the banjo world, but Gold Tone built this one from the ground up for you — mirrored neck, mirrored tuner layout, the works.
Beyond the banjo itself, the CC-BG/L package wraps in everything a beginner actually needs: a padded gig bag to protect your investment, a Swift Clip Tuner so you’re always in tune, a neck strap, a set of fingerpicks and a thumb pick, and an instructional video by me — the same method that anchors my Banjo Primer book, which has been the top-rated beginner banjo method for decades. I’ve spent over 45 years teaching people to play this instrument, and I designed the video included in this package with absolute beginners in mind. Whether you’ve never touched a banjo or you’re switching from right-handed playing, this kit gives you a real head start. The Terminator tailpiece, two-way adjustable truss rod, and geared fifth-string peg are all features you’d expect to pay more for at this level.
Every instrument receives a professional factory setup at Gold Tone in Titusville, Florida before it ships. Head tension is adjusted, bridge placement and height are set, neck relief is checked with the truss rod, and the action is set to be comfortable and playable for a beginner — because even a great instrument can be frustrating to learn on if it hasn’t been properly set up. You won’t have to take it to a shop or struggle with buzzing strings. It arrives ready to play.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this truly a left-handed banjo, or just a regular banjo restrung?
This is a purpose-built left-handed instrument. Gold Tone mirrors the entire neck and tuner layout for left-handed players, so the fifth string peg is in the correct position and the nut is cut for left-handed string spacing. It is not simply a restrung right-handed banjo.
I’ve never played banjo before — is this starter pack really everything I need to get going?
Yes, genuinely. You’ll receive the banjo, a gig bag, a clip-on tuner, a neck strap, fingerpicks, a thumb pick, and an instructional video by me, Geoff Hohwald. The video walks you through everything from holding the banjo to your first rolls. The only thing you’ll need to add is practice time.
Will I need to have this set up before I can play it?
No — that’s already handled. Every instrument receives a professional factory setup at Gold Tone in Titusville, Florida before it ships. Head tension, bridge placement, action, and neck relief are all adjusted so the banjo arrives comfortable and playable right out of the box.
