Deering Tenbrooks Saratoga Star 5-String Banjo, Radiused Fingerboard, Kruger Tone Ring, Made in USA
The Deering Tenbrooks Saratoga Star is a top of the line 5-string resonator banjo in highly figured violin grade maple, and this one has the radiused ebony fingerboard and the Kruger (Swiss Reutschi) tone ring, handcrafted in Spring Valley, California. Its Art Nouveau inlays were designed by Greg Deering himself, inspired by the Victorian era. In stock now at Banjo Warehouse, an authorized Deering dealer in Yellow Springs, Ohio.
This is the radiused fingerboard version, not the flat board. The Deering factory label inside the resonator reads Tenbrooks Radius FB Saratoga Star, serial number 05038825 0546, and a photo of that label is in the gallery. A radiused board curves gently across its width instead of lying flat, following the natural arc your fingertips make when you fret a chord, so barre shapes and chording up the neck take less pressure.

Why the Saratoga Star?
Deering builds the Saratoga Star for dedicated players in bluegrass, country, rock and classical music. Deering describes its voice as full bodied, with a deep bass and brilliant highs, and a sound that carries farther than other banjos. You feel the banjo vibrate against you as you play.
Deering offers the Saratoga Star with two tone rings: its own -06 bell bronze ring, or the Kruger (Swiss Reutschi) ring. This banjo has the Kruger ring, the premium option. It also comes strung with Deering Jens Kruger Signature strings.
The Pot
3-ply violin grade maple rim, 11 inches across, with the Kruger (Swiss Reutschi) tone ring and an 11 inch frosted medium crown head. Notched brass tension hoop with 24 round J-hooks and 1/4 inch hex nuts. Tenbrooks one piece cast floating zinc flange, Deering armrest, 11/16 inch Deering Smile bridge and Deering True Tone tailpiece.
