Gold Tone AC-6+/L Left-Handed Acoustic Composite Banjitar with Pickup and Gig Bag

This is the left-handed version of the Gold Tone AC-6+ Acoustic Composite Banjitar — and if you are a left-handed guitar player who has ever wondered what your familiar EADGBE tuning would sound like with a banjo head under your fingers, this is the instrument built for you. Gold Tone engineered the AC-6+ around a molded composite rim and resonator that are remarkably strong, dimensionally consistent, and built to hold up to years of playing and travel. The result is a banjitar that stays in tune, stays in adjustment, and delivers that bright, percussive banjo character without asking a guitar player to rewire their brain around new string relationships. Whether you are a folk singer looking for a different texture, a guitarist curious about old-time or bluegrass sounds, or simply someone who wants an instrument that turns heads at an open mic, the AC-6+ left-handed delivers real musical value at a price that makes sense.

What sets the AC-6+ apart from a basic banjitar is the built-in SMP sliding magnetic pickup with an onboard volume control. You can dial in your level at the instrument itself, plug into any guitar amp or DI box, and be heard in any room without wrestling with external clip-on pickups or awkward mic placement. The 11-inch Remo LC Smooth head gives you a slightly warmer, less brittle tone than a clear head — great for vocals-forward settings where you want the banjo shimmer without it cutting too sharp. The maple neck with radiused rosewood fingerboard and 21 frets feels familiar the moment a guitar player picks it up, and the two-way adjustable truss rod means the neck can be dialed in for any climate or playing preference. The ZeroGlide nut at 1-11/16 inches keeps open strings ringing cleanly in tune, and the sealed guitar-style tuners hold pitch reliably. Chrome hardware, black ABS binding, and a natural satin finish round out a package that looks as good as it plays.

Each instrument receives a professional setup at Gold Tone’s factory in Titusville, Florida before it ships to you — nut slots checked and dressed, action adjusted at the bridge and coordinator rod, head tension evaluated, intonation verified, and every tuner and bracket tightened. A factory-fresh instrument off the shelf and a properly set-up instrument are two different playing experiences, and we want you to open the case and be ready to play.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a guitar player really pick this up and start playing right away?

Yes — that is exactly the point of a banjitar. The AC-6+/L is tuned EADGBE just like a standard guitar, so every chord shape, scale, and song you already know translates directly. You are simply playing those familiar patterns on a banjo body, which gives you that bright, articulate banjo character without any learning curve on the instrument layout. Left-handed players will feel right at home since this model is purpose-built for left-hand orientation.

Does the SMP pickup require a battery?

No. The SMP (Sliding Magnetic Pickup) is a passive magnetic pickup similar in principle to an electric guitar pickup — it requires no battery and no phantom power. Just plug a standard 1/4-inch instrument cable into the output jack, connect to your amp or DI, and you are ready to go. The onboard volume control lets you set your output level right at the instrument.
