This is the left-handed Gold Tone OM-800+, and octave mandolins are one of the most rewarding places a mandolin player can go. Yes. This is Gold Tone’s factory left-handed OM-800+, built that way rather than converted. The photographs show the right-handed model because Gold Tone photographs the line right-handed; the instrument you receive is left-handed.
How is an octave mandolin tuned?
GDAE, the same intervals as a standard mandolin but a full octave lower. Everything you already know transfers directly — the fingering is identical, the voice is not.
