Why the Wicklow?
An Irish tenor has to cut through fiddles, flutes and accordions at a session. The rolled brass tone ring on the Wicklow’s 12 inch maple rim gives it the clarity and attack to do that, and the 22 1/4 inch scale keeps the fifths-tuned GDAE fingering comfortable for players coming from the fiddle or mandolin.
The Pot
12 inch maple 2-ply rim with a rolled brass tone ring, an ebonite rim cap and tortoise shell binding. 26 brackets with a 26-notch brass tension hoop. Dual OME adjustable coordinator rods. Remo Renaissance head. Sweetone tailpiece. Maple OME bridge. Maple armrest. Aged brass hardware. Tung oil finish.
The Neck
Maple neck with a tung oil finish and an ebony-capped heel. Ebony fingerboard with mother of pearl inlays and dot side markers. 19 nickel frets. Two-way dual action truss rod. Victorian headstock with Rickard Cyclone tuners and tortoid buttons, stamped with the OME mark and “Titusville Florida” on the back. 1 5/32 inch nut, 22 1/4 inch scale. Tuned GDAE.

What does built to order mean?
OME does not build Wicklows ahead for stock. Your banjo is built after you order it, then comes to our Yellow Springs shop, where Tara sets it up before it ships to you. Call Geoff for the current build time.
What is an Irish tenor banjo?
A 4-string banjo with a short neck, tuned GDAE, an octave below a fiddle or mandolin. That tuning lets fiddle and mandolin players carry their fingering straight over, and it is the standard banjo of Irish traditional music.
Is the OME Wicklow made in the USA?
Yes. OME builds the Wicklow in Titusville, Florida and stamps its origin on the back of the headstock. OME was founded in Boulder, Colorado in 1960 and is now part of Gold Tone Music Group.
