This 2015 Davis Concord Prototype is a five-string resonator banjo made by renowned American boutique banjo maker Tim Davis. It has a specially designed wide neck, a beautiful curly maple neck and resonator, a three ply hard rock maple rim, and a Davis 20 hole bell brass tone ring.
In the demo Geoff Hohwald introduces it himself: “So here we have a 2015 Tim Davis Concord banjo, and this has an extra big neck, which is great if you have big hands.” He calls it an incredible sounding banjo, and then he plays it.
A Davis Concord prototype with a wide neck
The neck is what sets this Davis Concord apart. Tim Davis built it with a specially designed wide neck, and the maker’s label inside the rim has “Larger Neck” written beside it. Geoff describes it in the demo as an extra big neck that is great if you have big hands.
The same label reads “Prototype” on its Number line and is dated 10/07/15. Both photographs of the label are in the gallery, so you can read it for yourself.
How this Davis Concord is built
This Davis Concord has a curly maple neck and a curly maple resonator, a three ply hard rock maple rim, and a Davis 20 hole bell brass tone ring.
The photographs also show a one-piece flange, a bound fingerboard with pearl inlays and a pearl block engraved CONCORD, the Davis name in pearl on the peghead, a sunburst finish on the back of the resonator, a geared Gotoh fifth-string tuner, and spikes at the 7th, 9th and 10th frets.
Condition
This 2015 Davis Concord Prototype is a used banjo in very good condition.
Four things show in the photographs, and we want you to see them: a few small spots in the plating on the tailpiece; light tarnish on the flange and tension hoop; light soiling on the fingerboard binding on the fifth-string side; and a few fine scratches on the side of the resonator.
