Why the Goodtime 19-Fret Tenor?
It is a four string tenor banjo tuned in fifths like a viola or cello, C G D A, with the full 19 fret neck common in traditional jazz and Irish music. Deering points it at players starting out in either style. With an Irish tenor string set it can be tuned G D A E. At about 4.5 lbs it is light enough to take traveling.
The fret markers on this one are the bowtie inlay, which Deering has since discontinued.
The Pot
3-ply violin grade maple rim, 11 inches across, with an 11 inch bottom frosted high crown head. Beveled steel tension hoop with 16 flat J-hooks and 9/32 inch hex nuts. 5/8 inch Goodtime Smile bridge and Deering’s own Goodtime tailpiece.
In short: a brand new, American-made 19-fret open back tenor banjo with a discontinued inlay, at about 4.5 lbs.
The Neck
Rock maple neck with no stain and a satin finish. 19 pressed in nickel silver frets with bowtie inlays. Lexan polycarbonate nut at 1 3/16 inch width. Four tuners. 23 inch scale length. Overall length 35 inches.
