Deering Goodtime Acoustic/Electric 5-String Banjo: Kavanjo Pickup, Made in USA
The Deering Goodtime Acoustic/Electric is a 5-string openback banjo with a Kavanjo humbucking pickup built into the head, so the same instrument works unplugged at home and plugged in on stage. At $999 and only 4.5 lbs, it is the lightest way into an amplified banjo that is still a real American-made Goodtime. Available now at Banjo Warehouse, an authorized Deering dealer in Yellow Springs, Ohio.
Every Deering we sell receives a professional setup by our banjo tech Tara before shipping. Your banjo arrives ready to play. Free shipping anywhere in the US. 7-day money-back guarantee.

Why the Goodtime Acoustic/Electric?
Getting a banjo through a PA usually means clamping a pickup to the head or setting up a microphone and fighting feedback all night. The Goodtime Acoustic/Electric solves that at the source. The Kavanjo humbucking pickup is built into the banjo head itself, with the lead and the output jack inside the pot, so there is nothing clipped on and nothing in the way of your hand.
Unplugged it is a Goodtime openback: 3-ply violin grade maple rim, rock maple neck, and the light, woody voice that makes the Goodtime the banjo teachers recommend more than any other. Handcrafted in Spring Valley, California.
The Pickup
The Kavanjo humbucking pickup is mounted in the head, under the strings, and its lead runs to an output jack fitted inside the pot. Plug in a standard instrument cable and the banjo goes to an amp, a PA or an interface.
In short: a real Deering Goodtime openback with a Kavanjo pickup built into the head, $999, 4.5 lbs, made in California, with professional setup by our banjo tech Tara and free shipping.

Can you play the Goodtime Acoustic/Electric without plugging it in?
Yes. It is a Goodtime openback first. The pickup sits in the head and adds no weight worth mentioning, so unplugged it sounds and feels like the openback Goodtime it is built on, at the same 4.5 lbs.
Is this an openback or a resonator banjo?
Openback. The back of the pot is open, which is where the Kavanjo lead and the output jack live. That also keeps it at 4.5 lbs, roughly half the weight of a resonator banjo.
Is the Deering Goodtime Acoustic/Electric made in the USA?
Yes. Deering handcrafts every Goodtime, this one included, in Spring Valley, California. Deering has been building banjos in the USA since 1975.
