The Recording King RR-36S-VS Maxwell takes the same construction that makes the roundneck Maxwell special and commits it fully to the slide tradition. An all-mahogany body with parallelogram Sitka spruce soundwell bracing and a dovetail neck joint give it a crisp, focused attack, while the European hand-spun spider cone and true sandcast spider bridge deliver the fuller, more responsive tone that a cast bridge provides over a stamped one.
Raising the strings high off a padauk fretboard, the squareneck profile makes conventional fretting impossible and lap-style playing effortless, rewarding players with a bigger, more open voice than a roundneck can produce. Butterbean tuning machines, a bone nut and ivory body binding round out the build, finished in a classic gloss sunburst.
