2026 Deering Sierra Maple 5-String Banjo

Here at Banjo Warehouse in Yellow Springs, Ohio, we are proud to offer a brand-new Deering Sierra in the maple configuration, fresh in from Deering. The Sierra has been Deering’s most popular professional-grade banjo for over thirty years, and it is easy to hear why — it pairs a professional pot assembly with clean, artistic looks and the powerful, balanced bluegrass voice players count on. It is made in the USA and backed by Deering’s lifetime warranty.

This maple version has a quartersawn maple neck with a slender “D” profile, finished in a brown mahogany satin stain, with an A-grade ebony fingerboard and Deering’s own engraved inlays. The pot is built around a 3-ply violin-grade maple rim and the Deering -06 twenty-hole bell bronze tone ring, the heart of the Sierra’s clear, cutting sound. It wears a one-piece cast zinc flange, a Deering True Tone tailpiece, a Deering armrest, and the 5/8 inch Deering Smile bridge, all in a satin nickel finish.

Before it ships, this banjo receives a complete professional setup by our banjo tech Tara, so it plays beautifully right out of the case. It comes in a hardshell case with Deering light-gauge strings, and it carries Deering’s full lifetime warranty.

What is the Deering Sierra?

The Sierra is Deering’s most popular professional-grade banjo, and has been for over thirty years. It combines a professional pot assembly — including Deering’s -06 bell bronze tone ring — with tasteful, artistic cosmetics at an accessible professional price. It is a workhorse bluegrass banjo made in the USA that players buy and keep for a lifetime.

What does the maple version sound like?

This is the maple configuration, with a quartersawn maple neck and a maple rim. Maple gives the Sierra a bright, clear, cutting tone with excellent note separation and projection, which is why so many bluegrass players reach for a maple banjo. The Deering -06 twenty-hole bell bronze tone ring drives that sound.

Is it ready to play, and what comes with it?

Yes. It is brand new and receives a complete professional setup by our banjo tech Tara before it ships, so it plays beautifully right out of the case. It comes in a hardshell case with Deering light-gauge strings, tuned to standard G, D, G, B, D, and it carries Deering’s lifetime warranty. It is right-handed and made in the USA.
