Why the Eagle II?
The Twenty-Ten tone ring came out of a collaboration between Greg Deering and Jens Kruger, and it is not shaped like a traditional tone ring. Made of brass, it produces a rich midrange with good bass and treble response.
That balance is the point. Deering describes the Eagle II as suited to both clawhammer and bluegrass, with clarity and a balance of brightness and warmth whichever way you play it. If you pick in more than one style, it is one banjo that covers them.
The Pot
3-ply violin grade maple rim, 11 inches across, with Deering’s patented Twenty-Ten tone ring. 11 inch frosted medium crown head. Notched brass tension hoop with 24 round J-hooks and 1/4 inch hex nuts. Two piece Eagle series flange, Deering armrest, 5/8 inch Deering Smile bridge and Deering True Tone tailpiece. Nickel plated hardware and a hand finished satin polyurethane finish on the pot.
In short: the Eagle II is a professional American-made resonator banjo with a patented tone ring voiced for bluegrass and clawhammer alike.
The Neck
Quartersawn maple neck with a slender D shape in Deering’s custom dark Eagle Red stain and a high gloss finish. A grade ebony fingerboard with Deering’s original Eagle engraved inlays. 22 nickel silver frets. Deering planetary tuners and a Deering Gotoh geared 5th string tuner. 1 1/4 inch nut width, 26 1/4 inch scale length.
The Resonator
3-ply resonator in the same custom dark Eagle Red stain with a high gloss finish and straight sidewalls, 13 7/8 inches across. Overall length 38 inches.
