Why the Artisan Goodtime Two?
The Goodtime Two is Deering’s American-made resonator banjo for players who want bluegrass volume without bluegrass weight. The Artisan version keeps that design and changes what you see and what you tune with.
The neck and resonator carry a dark red mahogany stain with white detailing, the fingerboard is Midnight Maple with vintage Artisan style inlays, and Goodtime planetary tuners replace the standard geared tuners for smoother, finer tuning. Deering’s own summary: it plays great, sounds great, and looks great too.
The Pot
3-ply violin grade maple rim, 11 inches across, with an 11 inch frosted high crown head. Beveled steel tension hoop with 16 flat J-hooks and 9/32 inch nuts. Two piece flange, Goodtime armrest, 5/8 inch Goodtime Smile bridge and Deering’s patented Goodtime tailpiece. Nickel plated hardware and a hand finished satin polyurethane finish.
In short: the Artisan Goodtime Two is an American-made resonator banjo at about 6.5 lbs, with planetary tuners and a vintage look.
The Neck
Rock maple neck with a comfortable D shape, dark red mahogany stain and a satin finish. Midnight Maple fingerboard with vintage Artisan style inlays. 22 pressed in nickel silver frets. Lexan polycarbonate nut at 1 1/4 inch width. Goodtime planetary tuners and a Goodtime geared 5th string tuner. 26 1/4 inch scale length.
The Resonator

What is the difference between the Goodtime Two and the Artisan Goodtime Two?
The body and sound design are the same: a 3-ply violin grade maple rim and a 3-ply resonator. The Artisan adds a dark red mahogany stain, a Midnight Maple fingerboard with vintage Artisan style inlays, and planetary tuners.
Does the Artisan Goodtime Two have a tone ring?
No. Like the Goodtime Two, it has no tone ring, which keeps it at about 6.5 lbs. If you want a tone ring in the Artisan look, that is the Artisan Goodtime Special.
Is the Artisan Goodtime Two made in the USA?
Yes. Deering handcrafts every Goodtime, the Artisan line included, in Spring Valley, California.
