The Gold Tone CC-100R+ is the upgraded version of one of the best-selling beginner-to-intermediate banjos ever made, with more than 25,000 Cripple Creek banjos in players’ hands worldwide. The “+” adds a rolled brass tone ring and a ZeroGlide nut for a warmer, more resonant voice and clean open-string intonation. Built on a hard maple neck and rim with a real rosewood fretboard, it plays well above its price class. The Gold Tone CC-100R+ takes the legendary Cripple Creek platform and adds the two upgrades players ask for most: a rolled brass flat-bar tone ring and a ZeroGlide nut. The result is a richer, more resonant tone with real clarity in the upper register, plus open strings that stay in tune with fretted notes right out of the box. For a first serious banjo, or a reliable second instrument, it is hard to beat at this price.
The foundation is all there. A hard maple neck and multi-ply maple rim, a real rosewood fretboard with snowflake inlays, dual 11-inch coordinator rods for precise neck-angle adjustment, and a two-way truss rod give the CC-100R+ the kind of build quality you usually have to spend more to find. Chrome hardware, a flat-bar tension hoop, and a Remo coated head round out a package that is genuinely overbuilt for the money. Sealed guitar-style tuners hold pitch reliably, which is a real help for newer players.
