The Recording King RM-991-S carries over everything that makes the RM-991 one of the most distinctive tricones around, the nickel-plated bell brass body, three hand-spun aluminum cones and sandcast T-bridge, and puts it in a squareneck build for the lap-playing tradition. With the strings raised off the fretboard and free to ring without the compromise of standard fretting height, the tricone’s layered harmonics reach their full potential.
The two-on-bass, one-on-treble cone arrangement gives a naturally balanced EQ, while open geared tuners, an abalone dot-inlaid padauk fretboard and a mahogany squareneck keep it comfortable for long sessions. It’s a sound that carries across a room unamplified and rewards close listening with layers of overtone detail.
