1970’s Martin Vega Banjo 5 string Banjo

This is a super cool vintage Martin Vega Banjo that was made in America. This has been inspected and set up at the Banjo Warehouse in Atlanta Georgia.

Description

Martin owned the Vega name in the 1970’s and made some good quality instruments in America. This is one of those banjos and this not only has a resonator this has a full size tone ring.

This has a multi ply maple shell with the Martin logo on the inside of the shell. The tone ring is definitely unique and it is a full size ring. There are 30 holes in 10 sets of 3. This banjo definitely is a quality banjo in part because of the ring. The flange is 2 pieces.

This is all original with nickel hardware. The resonator is maple and has a nice curl to it. I’m pretty sure the neck is maple and the fretboard is definitely ebony. The fretboard looks fantastic with some really nice inlay work for the position markers. The headstock has Vega inlaid and is definitely a classy look.

There is white binding on each side of the neck and resonator. There is some wood inlaid in the middle of the side of the resonator. That is a really nice touch. Finally this has original frets and a 5th string capo. All of the tuners are original.

This isn’t going to give the sound of a Gibson or a professional grade flathead but this is definitely a quality banjo. It has a nice tone with some volume and feels great to play. Plus it looks super cool and was made in America. This is all original with the original case.

Condition

We Professionally Clean every Banjo that comes through the Banjo Warehouse. This has been disassembled and all of the metal has been buffed with a high powered buffing wheel. The wood has been waxed and the fretboard oiled.

The hardware looks incredible, this basically looks new. There wasn’t really any wear to begin with and now this glows. The original case is also clean.

Set Up

We also professionally set up every Banjo that comes through the shop. This has a new Remo frosted head which is set to 90 on a a drum dial. The bridge is set with correct intonation. The strings are new Huber Truetone .10 gauge strings and the action is set really well. This is fully adjustable and can play great with really good volume. This is a really cool banjo that has been cleaned and set up to look, play and sound its best.
